Jerry Vicars and his early business partner, Johnny Cox, borrowed 7,000 dollars to buy a welder and various other tools. With that, Professional Welding Co. was born. The business started in a 500 sq. ft. rented building on Bloomingdale Road in Kingsport, TN. Two years later, Jerry bought out Johnny and became the sole proprietor of this growing business. Later that year he moved to Center Street in Kingsport where he had approximately 1,500 sq. ft. in which to work. After this, Jerry partnered with Robin King and Steve Rose who helped form the corporation and grow the business. They facilitated a move in the late 1980’s to the Eastern Star area and PWC was now operating out of a 6,000 sq. ft. building with 5 bays. This was the home of PWC for approximately 13 years.
In 2001, they completed construction of their current facilities on Riverport Road in Kingsport, Tennessee. Their offices are 4,000 sq. ft. and the operating facilities are 15,000 sq. ft. PWC also has 7,000 sq. ft. of leased space inside of Eastman Chemical Company for a total of 26,000 sq. ft.
In 2000, Jerry passed the torch of leadership to his son Mike. Together, they worked hand in hand to make PWC a thriving fabrication, repair, and testing facility. Jerry passed away on October 24, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
